The Lauer Foundation is participating in scientific work with the Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois (ESCONI) and Jack Wittry on a Carbonifereous age coal mine spoil pile in east central Illinois. ESCONI obtained permission to collect on the spoil pile and this material has not been studied. Jack Wittry has looked at the material collected by everyone and put together a Field Guide.
